The Equine Sports Massage Association

The Equine Sports Massage Association are the leading national organisation for Equine Sports Massage Therapists in the UK. The ESMA maintain high standards by ensuring their members are trained, experienced and qualified to operate as Equine Sports Massage Therapists.

The ESMA website contains a database of ESMA members who are all qualified therapists from all over the UK, listed by region.

Membership to the Equine Sports Massage Association, the longest running ESM Association in the UK, is via the OFQUAL regulated Open Awards Level 4 Diploma in Equine Sports Massage* (L4 Dip ESM) qualification delivered by Animal Therapy Solutions Ltd (ATSL) whose lead tutor is Helen Tompkins.

The ESMA was founded in 1995 by successful graduates of the first ITEC Diploma in Equine Sports Massage. This was the first recognised qualification in Equine Sports Massage in the UK and was the brainchild of Mary Bromiley Chartered Physiotherapist, MBE.

Helen Tompkins worked alongside Mary Bromiley from 2008 delivering the ITEC course up until Maru’s retirement in 2015 when Helen formed Animal Therapy Solutions to take over the running of the course.

Helen later developed the course into a Level 3 diploma and in 2022 further advanced the course to a level 4 (L4 Dip ESM).
